flap the flaps
and gimbal
the engines
locked to
the pad

waiting
           for
the double
shove into
motion

ii

un
imaginative
com
promised
orbiting too
low and in
the wrong
               plane

over
promised and
over
budget
under
flown and
much less
loved
         than
it ought to be

one in
sixty seven
lost to
bad design and
arrogance

iii.

the most
magnificent
yet
     while
on the other con
tinent
         the
freight train
lumbers down
its track to
Gagarin's pit

ready and
willing
to fly
again
