The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for October 2010

ONE POEM INSIDE TWO OTHERS

the warm
smell of
decay in the
autumn
leaves

sweet with
transition
and death

        despite
        the rabbit
        squats at the
        end of the driveway
        nibbling
        fairly slowly on the
        clump of
        grass it had
        selected
        (out of many)
        glancing
        around
                   oblivious
        to the old man
        and his observation

        (Schrödinger
        might have
        been wrong)

        hopping
        back into the
        tree root
        where it
                    nests
        only when the
        passing
                    agitation of
        a flight of
        morning
        doves on
        their way
        somewhere

        momentarily
        disrupts the
        extended moment

        (the grass was
        finished
        anyway)

and later
he lies
marking time
waiting to
see if the
orchestra will
take
the repeat
