The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for May 2010

standing
in the shower
looking out the
cloudy window
down
into the
neighbor's
flooded
yard

the duck
trails through
the pond scum
from above
like lifelines
on a palm

     *
running soapy
fingers through
the remnants
of his coarse
gray beard

        rinsing
abused and private
areas now
recovering
from one
of the passing
mysteries
of age

the doctors
shrug
        the
drain screen
is half-
clogged with
trimmings
        life

goes on
until
it stops
