The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for January 2009

More notes from two pilgrimages - 2008

chaises on the
outer terrace
soak in
           the
morning showers

like sentinels
before me
i am protected
sitting in the
breezes listening
waiting

*

the faint call of
roosters from
the town
             above
the steady surf
the last warm rain
spatters
           down
as fall approaches

the sun gleams
on the eastern
horizon
           above
the sea walls
sheltering
              reaching
out as if to
find the sun in
the waves

the clouds within their
own time, the
towns in theirs, the hills
impassive
              echoing all

the ferry makes
its berth
            the
dome of
the local holy
church
          immobile
as the hours
ring and
hidden city
commerce
bustles with trucks
and schedules
                     too
distant to
intrude

*

next
       door
voices
come and steal
the day
     [despite
     the
     next one
     dawns

     bright
     and clear
     again]
