The FAB&PP Special Poem of the Month for June 2008

how to explain the
laugh that's not
laughter the gulped
guffaw the shriek
of mock surprise
the rising hiccough
of pretend restraint as
if forced and contained
at the same time
that says
              not what
it intends

offensive
              false
to the ear and
the mind
             a noise
that commutes
both comment
and wit
