The FAB&PP Poem of the Month for January 2007

Winter Fragments
(“Dream Gypsy”)

1. Morning

listening
walking through
the darkness
listening to
smug successful
people
           who
believe in
causality
             and
will
tell
you

gladly how
they guided
history or moved
money or
otherwise
held fast the reins
of their lives

while i
[listening
              watching
wandering through
the dawn]
             am
content
to let
time
galop
        while
the past and
i glide in
a tuneful
duet
1a. Morning Again

somebody’s got
my nail
clippings hair
brush
        toe jam
rocks in my socks

2. Evening

all elbows
arms
akimbo
shopping bag
hooked in
one

fist grabbing
coffee
cup
in the other
hunched
shoulders
blocking the
purse strap
slip
not

and
that look in
her eye
like ‘who
are
these
wierdos’

a little de
fensive
grin

happy holi
days
